Liza joined the Poe Center in May 2018 and is currently working on her Master of Science in Nutrition at Meredith College. Originally a native from Stockton, California, Liza came to North Carolina 3 years ago. She graduated with her B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Merced in 2013.
After completing her undergrad, she served as an AmeriCorps member for a year in California, where she first got exposed to community health in the rural areas of Merced County. She mostly worked with the Southeast Asian and Hispanic communities providing asthma, nutrition, and diabetes education.
Liza also had the wonderful opportunity to work as a Food Champion for the Jamie Oliver Big Rig Mobile Teaching Kitchen! There she taught some of Jamie Oliver’s recipes to children and the importance of cooking and healthy eating. Liza is particularly passionate  about working with under-served and minority communities in order to decrease health disparities. While at Poe, she looks forward to continue gaining more knowledge and experience working with a variety of communities.
Outside of work and school, Liza enjoys reading, cooking, trying new foods and traveling.
