Maggie Perkins, RD, LDN
Maggie is from Asheville, North Carolina. She went to Appalachian State University and majored in Food and Nutrition and minored in Health Promotion. She completed three undergraduate internships in community, food service and clinical dietetics. She then attended Tulane University for her dietetic internship. The Tulane program specialized in community nutrition and Maggie found that she especially enjoyed rotations were she got to educate children and teens on health. After completing the internship and passing the Registered Dietitian exam, Maggie moved to Raleigh and started working in work-site wellness. Maggie’s favorite part of being a dietitian is group education. She loves for people to inspire each other through their personal success and shared experiences.
In her free time, Maggie likes to spend time with her family and friends and likes to prepare healthy, delicious meals. She appreciates traveling and tasting different cultures’ cuisines. Maggie makes sure that she stays active and enjoys hiking, mountain biking, running, yoga and weight lifting. Maggie grew up with a family that stressed the importance of being an active member of the community. She is glad that she is at The Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education to continue working with her community and providing high quality health education to youth.
