Rachel Pohlman, MPH, RD, LDN
Nutrition Program Manager
Rachel Pohlman joined the Poe Center August of 2015 as a Senior Health Educator. Rachel will be working primarily in Nutrition and Physical Activity education, managing the garden and Play Well Park. Rachel is a registered and licensed dietitian (RD, LDN). Rachel received her Master’s in Public Health Nutrition from UNC Chapel Hill in 2000.
Rachel has taught in a variety of settings and with most age groups. Through contract work, a variety of jobs, and volunteering Rachel has taught from pre-school to college to senior citizens. She started her career teaching environmental education. After working at a school in Zimbabwe in the 1990’s, Rachel started to switch her focus to public health. Rachel spent several years teaching nutrition classes in Durham County Schools through the Durham County Health Departments SNAP Ed program. Rachel was a co-coordinator of a John Rex Endowment grant called Healthy Places, Active Spaces. The goal of this grant was to increase access to healthy food and safe places to play for underserved youth in Wake County. Rachel continues to teach Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less classes part time.
Outside of work, Rachel enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 kids and young, highly energetic dog. She loves to cook and regularly plans meals around local, seasonal food. Rachel spends her free time outside, whenever possible.
