Development Coordinator
Part-time Health Educator
DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
The
Development Coordinator reports to the Vice President for Business
Development and has overall responsibility of assisting in fundraising and
providing administrative support.
-
Assists in meeting goals of annual fund as established by Poe Center
Board of Directors.
-
Identifies new prospects for the Poe Center.
-
Responsible for all proposals, follow-up and renewals for corporate
donors.
-
Help
solicit sponsorships for special event fund raising and works with VP of
Development to arrange logistics for all special events.
-
Develop
and maintain an individual and major gift prospect list by personally
contacting and developing long-term relationships with prospective
donors, developing proposals for consideration and stewarding donor
relationships.

Responsible for being key contact to partners, donors, staff and
volunteers.

Assures that regular timely and effective donor communication,
recognition and appreciation strategies are carried out.

Assist
in Development of sponsorship materials and proposals.

Assist
in grant research that might be good matches of Poe Center and assist in
grant submissions of $50,000 or less.

Assist
in fundraising efforts as assigned by VP of Business Development.

Responsible for generating thank you letters, direct mail letters in
regards to annual funds.

Responsible for all data input in Raiser’s Edge in regards to the
Development Department.
The
position requires at least an bachelor's degree, and at least three years
experience in some form of fundraising and thorough knowledge of basic
office software applications including word processing and spreadsheets.

Title: Part-time Health Educator
Reports to: VP of Programs; Senior Health Educators
Department: Programs
Basic Function:
Under the direction of the VP of programs the health educator delivers consistent, high quality health education to children K-12. The Poe Center has curriculum for five broad health education topics: general health, family life, dental health, drug education and nutrition.
The health educator researches, designs and develops health education curriculum and supplemental materials. The health educator develops and ensures comprehensive evaluation of students for all interventions. S/he provides initiative in developing and expanding Poe Center program capacity. The health educator also implements day-to-day responsibilities related to the delivery of instructional programs at the Poe Center, including teacher training, community outreach and development and maintenance of resource materials.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Master the course content of each program offered at the Poe Center in the five curriculum areas, developing a proficiency in those areas specified by the VP of Programs. Continually seek and incorporate methods of instruction that will enhance and enrich the learning experience. Explore and implement strategies which actively involve the participants in the presentations.

Develop and implement on-going evaluation of program effectiveness and preference. Assist in the research and development of new and innovative curriculum and instructional methods based on assessed need and demand.

Work with the Education Team to develop and revise the program guide, the listing of all curriculum offerings, on a yearly basis. Assist in efforts to determine the effective distribution of the guide to all potential markets throughout the year.

Research and develop supplemental materials for outreach, classroom, teacher and parental use. Research and purchase teaching materials, videos and other resources that will enhance the learning experience.

Follow proper set up and shut down procedures for the teaching theaters on days of instruction. Follow proper procedures, according to maintenance plan, for problems with audio-visual equipment and exhibits.

Promote the mission and goals of the Poe Center through outreach efforts in the community and during on-site tours and program promotions.

Read professional journals and newsletters to stay current and updated on latest health information. Seek out and participate in educational and personal growth opportunities that can enhance job performance; join and actively participate in relevant professional associations.

Be responsive to the needs of other staff and Board volunteers as time and expertise allows.

Develop individualized action plans on a monthly basis and work plans on an annual basis.

Contribute to proposal writing for grants requiring education components.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the VP of Programs, i.e. coordinate special projects, research material for potential new programs, assist in data collection for grant proposals, etc.

Experience in curriculum design and development, education, technical writing, and evaluation.

Qualification Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Health Education or an equivalent combination of work experience and college level course work. Minimum of two years of practical education/teaching experience in learner centered training environments. Demonstrated skills in utilization of non-formal education techniques, learning event planning and curriculum development. Excellent presentation skills. Ability to relate to students (K-12 and adult). Computer literacy.
