Parents, guardians, educators and counselors are invited to a FREE workshop on drug and alcohol abuse and ways to equip young people with the skills to make healthy choices.
The workshop, “Drugs Uncovered: What Parents and Adults Need to Know”, will be held from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm pm on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Holly Ridge Middle School, located at 950 Holly Springs Road, Holly Springs 27540.
This workshop is sponsored by Holly Ridge Middle School PTA.
Recently updated and enhanced in 2012, the Poe Center’s DRUGS UNCOVERED explores the teenage drug, alcohol and tobacco culture of today. The two hour workshop combines a lecture-style format with an interactive, traveling exhibit. At approximately 20’ X 20’, the Poe Center’s “Teenager of Today’s Bedroom” holds over 70 references to substances that include elements of pop culture and common and not-so-common hiding places for drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
Participants will learn about trends in substance abuse and ways to communicate effectively with children and teens about these issues. All attendees will also receive free materials, including resources to educate young people about being drug-free and alcohol-free.
Parents and adults who work with elementary, middle and high school students are strongly encouraged to participate! This program is for ADULTS ONLY!
Seating for the workshop is limited, please RSVP by Wednesday, November 28, 2012. To reserve a seat or for more information contact Holly Ridge Middle School PTA at HollyridgePTA@gmail.com.
