The Poe Center’s Healthy Habits camp promotes nutrition and physical activity through hands on experiences and interactive learning.  Week long sessions were attended by youth ages 5-11 and a great time was had by all.  Each day of the week explored a different area of health education.  Nutrition, physical education, dental health, summer safety, and germ awareness were our five themes.  Children enjoyed two meals a day as well as two healthy snacks.  Each day campers visited our PlayWell Park playground, played LOTS of games, attended interactive, age appropriate classes, and followed along to exercise videos.  A favorite activity of all campers was Freeze dance time.  Crafts included apron decorating, life-sized body murals, and skeleton t-shirts.

The week culminated with a parent program in which campers were able to demonstrate some of the knowledge they had learned during camp.  Daily parent newsletters were also sent home to reinforce information that was covered each day.

We definitely feel that Poe Center made a difference in each child’s life and helped all campers with future and present healthy living choices.
