General Health Theater
The general health theater features TAM, the transparent anatomical manikin, who will assist students in their many adventures through the human body.

Nutrition and Physical Activity Theater
The nutrition theater hosts an interactive exer-cycle, the Poe Cafeteria and much more to ensure that students learn about good nutrition and active lifestyles.

Family Life Theater

Young children identify eating healthy

bodies. TAM and Organ Annie emphasize the importance of taking good care of

Brush & Floss! Brush & Floss!

Join us for Jiggle Wiggle time with Mr. Big Mouth as students learn how to brush and floss. Play our healthy snack foods game while learning about those who help us to take care of our teeth.

You are someone special! Through a series of hands-on activities and games, this program illustrates the message of protecting yourself from the everyday dangers of daily activities.Learn how to stay safe and healthy while still having fun!

Super Smiles!

An exciting visit from Mr. Big Mouth will teach students the importance of proper brushing and flossing. While figuring out a giant puzzle, the students will see what healthy foods are, the importance of visiting the dentist and what to do in cases of dental emergencies…all so we can have Super Smiles

Are you ready for an adventure? Join Flora the Food Explorer as she journeys to the Great Food Pyramid, the Poe Cafeteria and Snackville. Learn about the importance of physical activity and heart health during your adventures, too!

Germ Busters!

They’re everywhere, they’re everywhere! What are we talking about…GERMS! Whether it’s cold and flu season or just close quarters, germs can spread easily. Through this interactive experience, empower your students with the knowledge to reduce the transmission of these microscopic organisms

Bones, Joints & Vertebrate…Oh My!

Don’t be afraid of this skeletal session. Participants learn the function of bones and the importance of keeping them healthy. 3-D models illustrate how the bones support the body. Volunteers demonstrate how to keep the spine-in-line.

NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Fantastic Foods

Meet the Food Super Heroes!
Chief Carbohydrate, Officer Protein and Colonel Fat are just a few of the Nutrient Super Six. Participants will also enjoy the serving size challenge, figuring out food labels and understanding how television turns the food guide pyramid upside down.

 

Play Hard, Stay Fit

Is “play” physical activity? You bet! This session will examine the questions of “What is exercise” and “What does it mean to be healthy or unhealthy.” The participants are guided through the Activity Pyramid where they will discover their personal fitness likes and dislikes and the risks associated with poor health behaviors. They do this while learning how physical activity benefits every aspect of their lives.

DENTAL HEALTH

Clean and Chompin’!

You be the dentist! Practice tooth brushing and flossing on Mr. Big Mouth’s extra-large teeth. Pick healthy habits and nutritious snacks to prevent tooth decay. To help reinforce the importance of regular dental check-ups, volunteers will create a decay equation explaining how sugar and plaque lead to cavities.

4th – 5th GRADE

DRUG EDUCATION

Media Madness

Can the media REALLY make you mad? The answer is YES! This entertaining and conversational program discusses how young people are influenced by violence in the media. Media introduced in this session includes television, video games, music and movies while focusing on how exposure to violence can desensitize youth and increase aggressive behaviors.

 

Choices and Consequences

This session includes topics such as the dangers associated with tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and inhalant use and abuse. Participants learn how to recognize signs and behaviors associated with substance abuse. Safe alternatives to taking drugs are explored including refusal skills.

NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Food For Thought

Have your students ever asked…Why do we need food? What are the different food pyramids? How does media influence food choices? Are all body types the same? Is dieting healthy? If you said yes to any of these questions, don’t give it a second thought; sign up for this program today. The session will answer each of these questions and more.

 

"FITT" for Life"

You’ll feel great after taking this program as we introduce the importance of regular physical activity. Participants will experience the balance between eating and exercise while reinforcing the benefits of an active lifestyle and encouraging students to make a lifelong commitment to their health.

Explore how the heart and lungs work as a team. Walk through the respiratory and circulatory systems while identifying risks that can affect these systems.

FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION

This program includes a frank discussion about the physical, emotional and social changes that occur during puberty. Discussion includes the structure and function of the female and male reproductive systems, the menstrual cycle and fertilization.  An interactive game and movie reinforce important messages.

It’s a challenge balancing food and physical activity. Participants will discover the importance of food labels, barriers to healthy eating and the risks associated with over and under eating.

DRUG EDUCATION

For the Health of It!

The overall goal of the session is empowering participants to become better decision makers. This is done through emphasizing the dangers and consequences associated with drug use and abuse and by analyzing how the media influences negative health behaviors.

FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION

Facts of Life

Participants play the Reproduction Reality Survivor Game. They focus on the function and structure of the female and male reproductive systems. They also explore topics including the menstrual cycle, fertilization, implantation, fetal development and delivery of a baby.

GENERAL HEALTH

The Body Machine

Delve into the cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine and lymphatic systems. Challenge the Poe Points of Prevention “Physiologist” to investigate key health concerns and to identify current research on keeping the body healthy.

 

DRUG EDUCATION

Think First

Think First…React Second! Youth live in a world of choices. This session introduces the risks and consequences associated with decisions made by youth. Participants hear a testimonial from and engage in a discussion with an individual who has sustained a major life changing brain and/or spinal cord injury.

NUTRITION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Wellness Works

Take part in an interactive investigation on the influence that media has on body image and nutrition. Practice reading food product labels to decipher nutritional value and to help build nutritionally balanced meals.
 

FAMILY LIFE EDUCATION

Reproduction: Healthy Responsibility

Participants focus on the structure and function of the female and male reproductive systems. They discuss topics including the menstrual cycle, fertilization, implantation, fetal development and birth of a baby. Consequences of STI’s are explored with an interactive game. The benefits of abstinence until marriage are also discussed.

Teeth Are Goofy

The Disney character Goofy® helps children understand the importance of good oral hygiene. Participants play the “Teeth are Goofy” game, which teaches good oral hygiene.

Germ Busters Road Show

Using the “Glow Germ Box” exercise, students really see how effective their hand washing efforts can be (or not be). This session includes a sing-a-long of the catchy hygiene tune “Wash the Germs Away.” tooth.”

NUTRITION

Fantastic Foods Road Show

Educators use Food Super Heroes, Chief Carbohydrate, Officer Protein and Colonel Fat to introduce the participants to various nutrients and their functions. Participants will also examine serving sizes and food labels, as well as understand how television turns the food guide pyramid upside down.

Healthy Habits Road Show

Young children identify eating healthy foods, being physically active and sleeping as ways to take care of their bodies. Annie emphasizes the importance of taking good care of their bodies.

Students identify their favorite physical activities, and they learn about the importance of continued regular physical activity and fun activities to get them moving and motivated. Students identify and discuss the levels of the activity pyramid

Butt Out

How dangerous is tobacco anyway? Participants learn about the effects of tobacco through simulation exercises. Students also practice peer pressure refusal skills.

Drug Alert

What is a drug? What are the different classifications? What are the effects? After discussing these issues, participants develop strategies for steering clear of drugs.

Media Madness-Remote Control

Body Organs: Parts is Parts

“Amazing Clue” game to help them recognize the functions of the major body organs. Students then work together in role-play format to demonstrate the importance of a respective body organ. Participants investigate how cells are the basic “building blocks” of our entire body.

The emphasis is on fun as participants learn about the activity pyramid and why being active is so important. An interactive game teaches kids how to pack a tasty yet nutritious lunch.

Safe Fun in the Hot Sun

Safe summer fun is the focus of this program. Children learn about protection from the sun, signs of overheating and dehydration, safe summertime exercise and nutrition, poisonous plants, bug bites and more. Be active, stay safe, and keep the fun in summer!

Drug Education

It’s Up to You!

Information on making drug-free choices will help keep children on the right track. Drug information is given with an emphasis on decision-making, listening skills and peer pressure.

Nutrition and Physical Activity

Menus, Muscles and More

Participants review Food Guide Pyramids and participate in a practical restaurant activity that addresses hidden sources of fat. They also ride the exer-cyle as a practical application of the calories in versus calories out formula.
