Katie Barker is a native of Raleigh. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Food and Nutrition with a minor in Psychology, from Meredith College. She is currently working towards gaining a Master’s in Nutrition as well, with a concentration in Community Food Security. While working in various nutrition-related positions in food service, community, and clinical settings, she has realized her true passion is in nutrition education and outreach. She currently also works at the Carolina House, where she has been able to reach the eating disorder population.  There, she has enjoyed teaching Culinary and Planning for Success nutrition education classes. She volunteered to initiate the development of a new curriculum, as she enjoys brainstorming the best methods to educate people.  Her favorite topics to teach include making cooking joyful, meal planning on a budget, and understanding the science of nutrition. Her mission is to be a trusted professional who empowers others to be the leaders of their own health journey.
In her free time, Katie enjoys spending time outside with her quirky dog, Gus. She also loves to cook, grocery shop, and explore Raleigh trails with her husband.
