Coronavirus (COVID-19) Updates: Field Trips, Events, Visitors, etc.

Statement from Ann Rollins,
Executive Director: 

“The Poe Center is consistently evaluating our practices and procedures to ensure we are following the latest prescribed national, state, and local protocols to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and protect our program participants, visitors, and staff.   We have outlined our current procedures below and will continuously update them as needed.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact our daily lives, the Poe Center remains committed to providing quality critical health education. There has never been a more important time to make healthy choices, which is why we echo local, state, and national health recommendations to take the following safety measures:

Doing all of the above will help keep you, your family, and your community healthier ensuring a healthier North Carolina, which is what the Poe center is all about. Thank you for your continued support.” – Ann Rollins

The Poe Center is open as usual with following procedures.

  • The building is staffed with essential workers Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Staff are working primarily from home and may be reached by email.
  • PlayWELL Park is open to the public Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Staff and visitors are asked to wear face masks and practice physical distancing when in shared spaces at the Poe Center.
  • Staff will wear facemasks and adhere to respective safety protocols of any off-site locations.

Field Trip Information:
The Poe Center is open for field trips and programs at our facility, on location, or live online. We follow Poe’s prescribed safety protocols plus those required by our clients. Please contact our program scheduler Amanda Bodenheimer (919-231-4006) with questions.


Please check our calendar of events for a list of current events and activities.  All events and activities are subject to changes based on evolving safety needs.

Visiting Poe:

  • We recommend making an appointment with a staff member prior to visiting the Center or call our main line at (919) 231-4006 in advance of visiting.
  • PlayWELL Park is open to the public Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
