It’s Up 2 U!

Grade Level: 3rd – 5th
Program Length: 45 minutes

Students learn about the “Gateway Drugs” and their effects on the body in a fun and engaging session. Interactive activities and a short movie illustrate key concepts as well as alternatives to drug use and abuse. This important information will help keep children on the right track!


Choices & Consequences

Grade Level: 5th
Program Length: 60 minutes

Students will learn the truth about the dangers of inhalants and the gateway drugs (tobacco, alcohol and marijuana) through an interactive classroom game modeled after the popular television program, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? The dangers and consequences associated with use and abuse will be discussed through the use of exhibits, BrainPop videos and interactive activities. Students will conclude the session with participation in an activity reinforcing refusal skills.


For the Health of It!

Grade Level: 6th – 8th
Program Length: 60 minutes

Students will discover how using drugs and alcohol can damage their brains and bodies. This class is centered around interactive activities that focus on “showing and not telling” kids how their brains are affected by alcohol and drug (inhalants, marijuana) use. Real life scenarios are used to help students analyze how a “drugged” brain affects their actions and decision making skills. Students will also engage in role-play reinforcing refusal skills.

Understanding Opioids

Grade Level: 6th – 12th
Program Length: 60 minutes

Students will learn the types and effects of opioids (prescription pain medicine and heroin) on the brain and body, how opioids affect brain chemistry, safe use of prescription medication, and how to recognize an emergency and intervene on the behalf of their peers as well as stress management as a prevention technique.

Grade Level: 9th – 12th
Program Length: 60 minutes

Teenagers live in a world of choices. Explore the risks and consequences associated with decision making; specifically those involving alcohol, drugs and personal injury/accidents. Students will learn about the consequences of experimenting with alcohol, marijuana, prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse.




The Science of Addiction

Grade Level: 10th – 12th
Program Length: 60 – 75 minutes

The Science of Addiction presentation will address the neurological ramifications when a psychoactive drug is introduced in the brain. At the end of the presentation, students will be able to categorize drugs hallucinogens, stimulants, and depressants and explain the characteristics of each, identify the neurotransmitters impacted by the introduction of the psychoactive drugs and describe the symptoms of drug use based on the neurotransmitters involved. In addition, students will understand the biological constructs of tolerance and withdrawal. The Science of Addiction is an interactive presentation involving discussion and role play.


Drugs Uncovered: What Parents Need to Know

Grade Level: Adults Only
Program Length: 2 hours

Drugs Uncovered: What Parents Need to Know is an interactive program that targets parents of upper elementary, middle school and high school students. Drugs Uncovered introduces parents to the current trends regarding alcohol, tobacco and other drugs; health risks associated with adolescent use/abuse; the North Carolina alcohol laws and parental responsibility; and techniques for open communication and dialog with adolescents.
