Bee Downtown is a local operation that installs and maintains beehives at local businesses to help rebuild healthy honeybee populations. They’ve sent Beekeeper Ben to Poe to perform a honey extraction! Join at your convenience.

What’s a honey extraction, you ask? Extraction is the process of removing honey from the frame. Honey bees cap the honey with wax to protect and store it. Beekeepers remove the frames from the hive and use tools to “uncap” the honey and loosen it. From there, frames are placed into an extracting machine. Using centripetal force, the honey whips out and is filtered into buckets for bottling.

So tune in with your classroom or group and watch as Beekeeper Ben extracts honey from a BeeDowntown hive! Ask questions through Zoom and Beekeeper Ben will answer LIVE.
