If your child has a serious food allergy please contact us directly to discuss if appropriate accommodations can be made. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCan Camp PlayWELL accommodate children with special physical or mental health needs?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParents are asked to submit in writing\, at the time of registration\, of any special circumstances which may affect the child’s ability to participate fully and within the guidelines of acceptable behavior\, including but not limited to any serious behavioral problems or special circumstances regarding psychological\, emotional\, medical or physical conditions. \n\n\n\nThe camp director may request a conference to discuss the child’s needs and any implications for participation in Camp PlayWELL. The Poe Center’s staff and volunteers are not trained to provide the care needed for children with certain physical or mental health special needs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWill the Poe Center administer medication?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Poe Center does not normally administer any medication and will do so only when directed in writing by the child’s parent or guardian. Medication(s) must be labeled with instructions and placed in a plastic zip-loc bag marked with the child’s name. \n\n\n\nIn the event of an emergency in which the parent cannot be contacted\, emergency medical staff and the Poe Center may take appropriate action in the best interest of the child. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDo campers need to bring lunch and/or snacks or will they be provided?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLunch will be provided for all campers thanks to our partnership with Wake County Public School System Child Nutrition Services. \n\n\n\nAlternatively\, campers may bring a bagged lunch if they wish. All campers should bring a resusable bottle for water and a daily healthy snack. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat should campers bring with them?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA snack and bottle for water\n\n\n\nAny necessary medication(s) with instructions\, labeled in a plastic bag\n\n\n\nLight sweater or jacket\n\n\n\nSunscreen\n\n\n\nClosed-toe shoes or tennis shoes that are appropriate for physical activity\n\n\n\nA blanket\, and pillow for flex time\n\n\n\n\nPlease leave electronic devices and toys at home. The indoor facility spaces will primarily be used throughout the day. DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Healthy Minds & Healthy Bodies\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSAVE THE DATE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n35th Anniversary Celebration\n\n\n\nCelebrating Healthy Minds & Healthy Bodies \n\n\n\nPoe Center for Health EducationThursday\, September 17\, 20266:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. \n\n\n\nRegistration coming soon \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Board of Directors\, staff\, and friends of the Poe Center for Health Education as we celebrate 35 years of visionary health education in North Carolina. \n\n\n\nSince opening our doors in 1991\, the Poe Center has helped make our state healthier by empowering children\, youth\, and adults with the knowledge and confidence to build lifelong habits that support both mental and physical well-being. \n\n\n\nJoin us to celebrate the power of healthy minds and healthy bodies. During the evening\, we will unveil an exciting new program\, designed especially for middle and high school students\, in our iconic Cranium Connection exhibit. \n\n\n\nCelebrate with a lively silent auction\, a signature cocktail\, and an exclusive first look at the newly enhanced Cranium Connection. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n35 Years of Healthy Minds & Healthy Bodies\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn About Our Impact\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlanning Committee\n\n\n\nMegan Lumley\, Co-ChairScott Manning\, Co-ChairAnn Rollins\, Executive DirectorJennifer GradyAbigail QuesinberryHeather ReynoldsJennifer Bell\, StaffKim Whitley\, Staff \n\n\n\nSilent Auction Committee\n\n\n\nLauren DicksonTracey FisherJennifer GradyCallie Hammer\, Staff \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Cranium Connection\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen visitors enter the Poe Center\, they are immediately greeted by the Poe Center’s iconic Cranium Connection exhibit\, a 12-foot-tall head in the center of the lobby. Introduced in 2002\, this immersive “brain theater” invites children to enter behind the ear and step into a cave-like space in which their “head voice” demonstrates how the brain works. \n\n\n\nThanks to the generous support of Diana and Betsy Mead of the Mead Family Foundation\, the Poe Center is introducing a second brain-science program designed specifically for middle and high-school students. “Cranium Connection: Part 2” follows teenagers through various scenarios\, demonstrating how everyday choices influence brain development and empowering them to take charge of their mental well-being. Projection-mapping technology illuminates different regions of the brain as various activities engage them. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExplore the Cranium Connection\n\n\n\nExplore the Cranium Connection now with the augmented-reality version. \n\n\n\n\nLearn More\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBecome a Sponsor\n\n\n\nInterested in becoming a sponsor?
