Fruits and vegetables often taste better when they are in season. As a gardener or farmer\, it’s important to know what grows in our region and what can or cannot be grown at different times of the year. Participants will be introduced to regional\, North Carolina seasonal produce using hands-on learning techniques. Participants will explore the seasons and organization of the garden mural\, and engage with the GrowWELL seasonal garden. \n\n\n\nCranium Connection\n\n\n\nKids learn about the inner workings of the brain in the Poe Center’s 4D Cranium Connection exhibit. Located in the lobby\, the “brain theater” features a 20-by-20 foot cave-like space with decorative lighting to simulate veins and nerves. Visitors enter the Cranium Connection behind the ear to view a brain health education program through two large monitors at the front of the theater\, which are located where the eyes would be. Nerf balls are gently launched at the audience during the program to demonstrate the reactions of the nervous system to stimuli. \n\n\n\nPlayWELL Park\n\n\n\nFollowing the programs\, kids will enjoy exclusive access to the Poe Center’s body-systems themed playground. Our 1.5-acre shaded and fenced playground offers children a safe place to learn about health and engage in imaginative educational play. Climb a giant rib cage\, zip between two ears\, and rest and reset in our MindWELL garden. Picnic shelters are available for lunch. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSchedule of Events\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10:00 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. \n\n\n\n\n\nK-2nd grades: Cranium Connection (Atrium).3rd-5th grades: Exploring the Garden Seasons (Garden). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n10:50 a.m. – 11:35 a.m. \n\n\n\n\n\nK-2nd grades: Exploring the Garden Seasons (Garden).3rd-5th grades: Cranium Connection (Atrium). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11:35 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. \n\n\n\n\n\nK-5th grades: PlayWELL Park. \n\n\n\n(Visitors are welcome to bring a lunch to enjoy at our covered picnic areas during this time). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets on Eventbrite\n\nRegister Here

DESCRIPTION:Presented at no charge to attendees.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Community Resiliency Model (CRM)®\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Community Resiliency Model is evidence-based and trains community members to support themselves and others within their community. The primary focus of this skills-based\, stabilization program is to reset the natural balance of the nervous system. The goal is to help create “trauma-informed” and “resilience-focused” communities that share a common understanding of the impact trauma and chronic stress have on the nervous system and how resilience can be restored or enhanced through this approach. Participants will learn practical tools to help balance their nervous system through engaging in hands-on activities\, discussions\, and practice. \n\n\n\nWe are limited to 30 participants. Sign up today to reserve your spot. If the session is full\, we will contact you and let you know that we have added you to a waiting list and you will also be notified first of any upcoming sessions. \n\n\n\nFor questions and additional information\, please email Jessica Fowler. \n\n\n\n\n\nDate: Friday\, May 22\, 2026 \n\n\n\nTime: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM \n\n\n\nLocation: Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield305 E Market StSmithfield\, NC 27577 \n\n\n\nPresented at no charge to attendees.\n\n\n\n\n\nR.S.V.P. is required\n\n\n\nSpace limited to 30 participants. \n\n\n\n\nView Flyer\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Here\n\nRegister Here
