The Art of Health Education

A visit to the Poe Center is also a visit to a one-of-a-kind art gallery.

From original paintings to photography to 3D sculptures, the Poe Center uses the power of art to enhance the learning experience and promote healthy choices.

Metalworks

Everyone who visits the Poe Center is greeted with a call to action to make good nutrition and physical activity choices. With support from Poe’s SNAP-Ed grant, staff worked with Beechwood Metalworks in Burlington, NC to create the large-scale sculptures and messages reminding visitors and passersby to eat more fruits and veggies, drink water, and move more.

GrowWELL Garden Mural

This stunning two-story mural, by local artist Sean Kernick, in the GrowWELL Garden is one of the first things many visitors see when they arrive at the Poe Center. Beautiful and educational, the mural is used in garden programs to illustrate the growing seasons, root systems, pollinators, and a variety of fruits and vegetables.
