The Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education -
where learning is interactive, educational and fun!
The Poe Center for Health Education specializes in
developing programs for youth to address health concerns like childhood obesity, physical
inactivity, unhealthy food choices, tooth decay, drug and alcohol abuse, unintentional injuries, and teen pregnancy. All programs follow
North Carolina's Department of Public Instruction's Healthful Living
Curriculum.

are learner centered and outcome based. They can be tailored to your specific

Did you Know?

- Children in NC are 2 to 3 times more
likely to be obese than other kids in the nation. 1 in 4 youth in NC
ages 12-18 are overweight.
- Nearly half of all children in NC
have dental disease by the time they enter kindergarten.
- Almost 25,000 children in NC start
smoking each year.
- In NC about 40% of adolescents ages
12-19 report using alcohol in the last 30 days and marijuana at
least once in their lifetime.
- NC has the 9th highest teen
pregnancy rate in the U.S.

Since opening our doors in November 1991, the Poe
Center has provided healthy lifestyle education to communities, schools and
organizations, serving over 715,000 people from 73 counties in North Carolina.
