Our Programs

The family life theater features larger than life, 3-D models of the reproductive systems. All family life curriculums adhere to the strict parameters for family life education as prescribed by respective schools and districts.

Girl Talk for Mom & Me

Grade Level: 4th – 7th | Program Length: 2 hours

Girl Talk for Mom and & Me addresses the timely topic of adolescent growth and development and the physical, social and emotional changes that girls experience during puberty. 3-D theater exhibits, hands-on activities, movies and candid discussions help moms and daughters explore a range of topics from the workings of the reproductive system to the menstrual cycle to feminine hygiene protection and more.

NEW! Girl Talk 2

Grade Level: 6th – 8th | Program Length: 2 hours

Girl Talk 2 is a unique workshop designed for middle school- aged girls and their moms. This interactive,  two hour workshop discusses the growth and development  girls experience during puberty, the structure and function of the male and female reproductive systems, the menstrual cycle, fertilization and conception.  Internet safety, peer pressure, abstinence, and sexually transmitted diseases are also  introduced.  The program has been designed with activities that facilitate and encourage open parent-child communication.

Puberty Detectives

Grade Level: 4th | Program Length: 60 minutes

Start the conversation about puberty and entering adolescence. Students step into the role of a detective as they learn to respect the differences of others, find the clues to determine the qualities of healthy and unhealthy relationships and investigate the physical, emotional and social changes related to puberty. Several interactive activities enhance the experience of the participant’s “training” before becoming an official Poe Center Puberty Detective.

Puzzled by Puberty

Grade Level: 5th | Program Length: 60 minutes

Engage in an honest conversation regarding the physical, emotional and social changes that occur during puberty. Discuss the structure and function of the male and female reproductive systems, the menstrual cycle and fertilization. Interactive activities and an age appropriate movie reinforce important messages covered during the program.

 

 

Changing Lanes

Grade Level: 6th | Program Length: 60 minutes

Join us on an interactive journey that explores the development associated with puberty, the structure and function of the male and female reproductive systems, the menstrual cycle and conception. Subjects such as distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy relationships, effective refusal skills, and the difference between communicable and chronic are all discussed. Additionally, the benefits of abstinence and communication with parents are emphasized throughout the program.

UPDATED! Facts of Life

Grade Level: 7th | Program Length: 60 minutes

Facts of Life addresses the facts of puberty and the male and female reproductive systems so participants can review the menstrual cycle, fertilization, and implantation. Students will discuss the effects of culture, media, and family values on decisions they make. Facts about Sexually transmitted infections (including HIV and HPV)) are introduced. Methods to prevent sexually transmitted infections are summarized. Facts about what sexual harassment is and learning strategies to being safe are also discussed. Interactive activities are utilized to reinforce program content.

 

Myth Busters

Grade Level: 8th – 12th | Program Length: 60 minutes

There are so many myths and false information surrounding Sexually Transmitted Infections and Contraception methods. Myth Busters breaks those myths by discussing the facts about STI’s (including HIV/AIDS) and FDA approved contraception methods while stressing the importance of Abstinence as a positive choice for young people. Students will get to participate in age appropriate interactive activities to reinforce the program content.

Healthy Relationships 101

Grade Level: 8th – 12th | Program Length: 60 minutes

Healthy Relationships 101
 explores the facets of what makes a healthy relationship.  Setting and communicating personal boundaries, identifying warning signs of unhealthy relationships, and identifying societal influences that impact relationships are discussed through engaging activities, multi-media, and thoughtful reflection.

 

 

Reproduction: Healthy Responsibility

Grade Level: 9th – 12th | Program Length: 60 minutes
Reproduction: Healthy Responsibility focuses the benefits of delaying pregnancy.  The health, legal, financial, and social consequences of adolescent pregnancy and parenthood are discussed through engaging prompts, activities, and videos.  Participants recall the benefits of abstinence until marriage as well as review the FDA approved methods of contraception.
