LEAP (Lead Empower Achieve with Poe)

The LEAP (Lead Empower Achieve with Poe) program seeks to recognize, strengthen and support youth leaders while highlighting the importance of leadership in Wake and Johnston County youth. The LEAP program is committed to enhancing leadership skills that empower youth to achieve positive outcomes at school, at home and in their community.

LEAP Positive Youth Development Skills

L
LEAP incorporates prevention techniques that teach LEADERSHIP skills, school success, positive family and community engagement, making effective healthy decisions/choices, empower youth to develop positive values and morals, teaching high self esteem, how to handle negative peer influence, and being aware of their own culture.

E
LEAP EMPOWERS youth through positive influences, reinforced positive behaviors, and the knowledge and skills to support healthy decisions. This empowerment increases protective factors and decreases risk factors for behaviors such as alcohol, tobacco and/or other drugs, bullying, high risk sexual behaviors, and violence.

A
LEAP believes that all youth can set and ACHIEVE their goals to enhance various factors, including family resources, community services, and educational and employment opportunities.

P
The POE Center’s LEAP program is continuously developing partnerships with Wake and Johnston County organizations such as school, community, recreation and faith-based organizations. LEAP programs and activities are developed with youth instead of for youth. This empowers youth to respond to the programming in a positive way with participation, cooperation, and open to learning ways to be successful in their community.
