Peas are a delightful and rewarding crop to grow in the spring garden. The Poe Center loves growing peas for little ones because they can eat them raw right out of the garden and children enjoy their sweet flavor. Peas love cooler temperatures and can be planted as soon as the soil can be worked, usually in February or March in Zone 8a. Provide a trellis or support for the vines to climb, and keep the soil evenly moist for the best harvest. Peas are packed with nutrients like vitamins A, C, and K, as well as fiber and plant-based protein that help support energy and digestion. Snow or Snap peas make a great healthy snack paired well with hummus.
