Get in the Zone: Using Hydrozoning in Your Garden to Grow Delicious Produce
Hydrozoning may sound complex, but it’s easy in a garden of any size. Hydrozoning is a gardening technique that groups crops based on their watering needs. Watch along as our senior garden specialist breaks down these three watering zones and suggests plants for each zone, including delicious crunchy celery. Then, follow her to the kitchen for a delicious, unique twist on a classic celery snack!
Planting seasons may vary depending on your planting zone. Because the Poe Center is located in central North Carolina, we plant in Zone 8a. To find your planting zone, go to https://planthardiness.ars.usda.gov/
Mix-and-Match Celery Snacks
Materials: knife, cutting board, toothpicks, spoon
Snails on a Log
Directions:
- Fill the celery sticks with cream cheese.
- Cut a flat edge onto the apple round. Place the flat edge of the apple round into the cream cheese filling.

Frogs on a Log
Directions:
- Fill the celery sticks with nut butter.
- Place two grape halves in the nut butter. These are the “frogs.”
