Cortisol

Cortisol is a steroid hormone made in the adrenal gland. During stress it is released after the “fight, flight or freeze” response so you can stay on high alert. It is responsible for managing blood sugar levels and signals the liver to release glucose (sugar) if the body needs more energy.  (Cleveland Clinic, 2025).
